North Fleet practices submarine rescue with Kubyshka collapsible hyperbaric chamber

MOSCOW. Aug 22 (Interfax-AVN) - North Fleet rescue forces trained in assistance to a submarine in distress at the fleet's main base in Gadzhiyevo in the Murmansk region on Friday.

"The crew of the strategic submarine Tula and the North Fleet rescue unit practiced various rescue options. The Kubyshka collapsible hyperbaric chamber recently supplied to the rescue forces was used for the first time ever," says a fleet press service report seen by Interfax-AVN on Friday.

The exercises involved the diving support vessel VM-596, the rescue hovercraft Kaiman and commanders of the submarines based in Gadzhiyevo.

"A central point of the exercises was the evacuation of the strategic submarine crew through a torpedo tube supported by divers and the Falkon uninhabited submersible of the VM-596 vessel. The Kubyshka collapsible hyperbaric chamber was used for treating simulated decompression sickness of a submariner. The Kubyshka delivered the submariner to the stationary hyperbaric chamber for further treatment," the press service said.
