Russian Strategic Missile Forces begin command drill

MOSCOW. Aug 26 (Interfax-AVN) - A command-and-staff exercise practicing the cleanup of natural and man-made emergency situations and the deterrence of terrorism has begun in the Russian Strategic Missile Forces.

"In all, the command-and-staff drill involves over 2,000 servicemen and 150 operative and tactical command posts. Russian Strategic Missile Forces Commander Col. Gen. Sergei Karakayev will supervise the exercises," Russian Defense Ministry spokesman for the Strategic Missile Forces Maj. Dmitry Andreyev told Interfax-AVN on Tuesday.

Bodies and command posts of the Russian StrategicMissile Forces command, missile armies, divisions and military units are participating in the training.

They will focus on the protection and defense of field positions of military units armed with road-mobile missile systems and their maneuvering into positions.

The servicemen will practice tactical episodes of an urgent deployment of road-mobile missile systems in the case of a terror attack threat or in emergency situations at a Russian Strategic Missile Forces site.
