ROSTOV-ON-DON. Sept 2 (Interfax) - Over 53,700 refugees from Ukraine are now in Russia's Rostov region, the region's government's information policies department told Interfax on Monday.
"According to the Federal Migration Service's department for the Rostov region, 44,854 citizens of Ukraine are now registered with the region's migration authorities, all in all, 53,707 citizens of Ukraine, including 15,967 children, are being accommodated in the Rostov region. Most of the refugees - 50,475 people - are living at their relatives' and friends'. Over 2,500 Ukrainians are staying in stationary temporary accommodation facilities located in hotels, dormitories and children's rehabilitation centers in the Rostov region," the source said.
The number of refugees in temporary field accommodation facilities in the Rostov region has now decreased to some 600 people, the source said.
According to information from the policy department of the region's government, 5,191 people entered Russia and 6,898 people left Russia through checkpoints in the Rostov region in the past 24 hours.
The tendency of numbers of Ukrainians returning to Ukraine was first observed on August 25.
In addition, many refugees from Ukraine are leaving the Rostov region for other regions of Russia. On Sunday, 578 residents of Ukraine left for Nizhny Novgorod, Lipetsk, Ryazan, Tambov, Tula, Saratov, Smolensk, Kaluga, and Perm.
A total of 42,718 people, including 12,554 children, have left the Rostov region for other regions of Russia since June 4.
All executive and local self-government authorities without exception (over 2,500 people and 700 units of equipment) are involved in helping refugees from Ukraine who are staying in the region.
