MOSCOW. Sept 24 (Interfax-AVN) - Russia cannot build civilian vessels on the Crimean shipyards due to some restrictions imposed by the international community, Alexei Rakhmanov, president of the United Shipbuilding Corporation (OSK), said.
"Because even getting insurance for a vessel to come from Crimea to St. Petersburg, where its construction will be completed, is a whole story. If we can't produce a certificate of origin stating 'Ukraine' on a Crimean shipyard, these products are essentially manufactured illegally," Rakhmanov told a press conference in Moscow on Wednesday.
There are also restrictions on insurance premiums and certificates on facilities built in Crimea and moved to any place, including through European territorial waters, he said.
"To my great regret, the shipyard Zaliv will not be able to effectively engage in civil shipbuilding. It's what it was created for. This huge, 400 meter [shipyard], which can be used for building vessels with a high displacement, will most likely be used for building small vessels and warships," Rakhmanov said.
