DPR authorities vow to ensure open inquiry into death of ICRC employee in Donetsk

MOSCOW. Oct 3 (Interfax) - The leaders of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic have vowed to let international experts in and ensure an open inquiry into the death of a Red Cross representative during artillery shelling in central Donetsk.

"Of course, we will provide all kinds of assistance in the investigation of this incident. We are interested in the inquiry being as open and transparent as possible so that those responsible are found," DPR supreme council deputy speaker Miroslav Rudenko told Interfax on Thursday.

DPR law enforcement bodies will open the criminal case over the incident in the very near future, he said.

Earlier the International Committee of the Red Cross office in Ukraine reported the death of its employee in Donetsk. The victim is the deputy head of the ICRC Donetsk mission, Etienne Laurent, an Interfax correspondent said. His body is now at the Kalinin morgue in Donetsk. The defense ministry of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic told Interfax earlier that the shell, presumably launched by the Ukrainian military, had hit the local office of the ICRC, killing a Swiss national.
