MOSCOW. Oct 8 (Interfax-AVN) - Several units of the Russian Airborne Troops (VDV) have conducted a landing operation in an unfamiliar area as part of an inter-departmental exercise in the Saratov region, VDV spokesman Lt. Col. Yevgeny Meshkov told Interfax-AVN on Wednesday.
"Several VDV units deployed in the Volgograd region conducted a successful landing operation over the course of the main phase of the inter-departmental exercise in responding to emergencies of a chemical and biological nature, taking place in the Saratov region," Meshkov said.
The units landed from Ilyushin Il-76 airplanes and Mil Mi-8 helicopters onto unfamiliar sites, he said.
"After assembling, the troops proceeded keeping sabotage groups of terrorists out of man-made disaster areas," the officer said.
