Berkut veteran Sivokonenko becomes second contestant of DPR leadership

MOSCOW. Oct 8 (Interfax) - Yury Sivokonenko, a member of the Supreme Council of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic (DPR), has become a second candidate for DPR leadership, the Novorossiya press center said on Wednesday.

"DPR leader candidate registration documents were filed in Donetsk on October 8 by a second candidate, Yury Sivokonenko, a member of the DPR Supreme Council," the statement said.

A veteran of the Berkut special-forces police unit, Sivokonenko previously served as director at the Dinamo sports school for children in Donetsk, the statement said.

It emerged on October 4 that DPR prime minister Alexander Zakharchenko was the first to file candidate registration documents with the Central Election Commission for the November 2 elections.
