BRUSSELS. Oct 9 (Interfax) - NATO's new secretary general, Jens Stoltenberg, wants to find out what politicians and the public in Ukraine think of the idea of their country seeking membership in the North Atlantic alliance, according to Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin.
"Mr. Stoltenberg was wondering about sentiments in the political spectrum of Ukraine, and he will pay special attention to this matter, including after the elections, when he plans to visit Ukraine," Klimkin told reporters after meeting with Stoltenberg in Brussels on Wednesday.
Klimkin said Ukraine and NATO plan to boost their cooperation very soon, including military technological assistance from the alliance to Ukraine, use by the country of NATO trust funds for defense reforms, and [Ukraine's planned participation in] a NATO program of enhanced opportunities.
"At the moment a program of enhanced opportunities is getting opened to us, a program that is only open to five special allies of NATO, and we're starting to get a roadmap ready," the minister said.
