MOSCOW. Oct 27 (Interfax) - Nearly 7,000 immigrants have been taken to police stations in Moscow over the past 24 hours as part of the Migrant-2014 preventative operation, the Moscow city police department told Interfax on Saturday.
"The Russian Interior Ministry department for Moscow, with support from the city government, the city departments of the Federal Migration Service, the Federal Security Service, and special services, has been conducting the comprehensive preventative operation Migrant-2014 to continue from October 23 to November 2. City police officers have detained 6,830 foreign citizens on the territory of Moscow over the past 24 hours," a Moscow city police spokesperson said.
All these people have been taken to local police stations to establish their identities and check the legality of their presence in Russia. Their possible involvement in crimes committed earlier was also verified using special databases, the spokesperson said.
Administrative reports have been compiled on 535 foreign citizens under Russian Code of Administrative Offences Article 18.8 (violation of the rules of entry to Russia or presence (stay) in Russia by a foreign citizen or an individual without citizenship).
Twenty-three criminal cases have also been opened under Russian Criminal Code Article 322.1 dealing with the illegal residence of foreign citizens on the territory of Moscow.
