Nineteen people killed by neo-Nazis, racists in Russia in 2014 - rights activists

MOSCOW. Oct 31 (Interfax) - Nineteen people have been killed in Russia in attacks driven by radical xenophobia in Russia this year, the human rights center Sova told Interfax on Friday.

"A total of 19 people have been killed and 93 have been wounded in racist violence since the beginning of this year," the human rights activists said.

According to Sova, racist attacks have been registered in 24 regions this year.

At least 11 people were hurt in racist and neo-Nazi attacks in October, and four of these people were killed, Sova said.

According to the human rights activists, the main victims of ultra-radical activists in Russia are people with origins in Central Asia and the Caucasus, members of youth sub-cultures, and sexual minorities.

Sova earlier reported that Moscow and St. Petersburg led the Russian regions in attacks inspired by xenophobia in 2013.

According to Sova, twenty people were killed in such attacks in 2014 and at least 173 were wounded.

Sova is a leading Russian NGO monitoring attacks inspired by xenophobia and ethnic intolerance.
