BEIJING. Nov 10 (Interfax) - The West should make it clear to Kyiv that there can be no return to the use of force in resolving the crisis in Ukraine, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said.
"What is the most important is not to play up to the ideas floating in the air in Kyiv that it's necessary to gain strength and return to forcible methods of resolving the crisis but to discourage the hotheads from having such ideas and work to make sure that the commitments that the Kyiv authorities have undertaken, namely the policy toward a political settlement of the Ukraine crisis, be honored. We, on our part, will facilitate this in any way we can in our contacts with both the militiamen and the Kyiv authorities," Lavrov told journalists following a meeting with U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry.
"For understandable reasons, the U.S. and we have different positions on what is happening in Ukraine and why this is happening. But nevertheless, if Washington is interested in facilitating the pacification of the situation and creation of conditions for dialogue between Kyiv and the militia leaders, the leaders of the LPR and DPR [the self-proclaimed Luhansk and Donetsk people's republics], I believe this would be a step in the right direction," he said.
