Uralvagonzavod to deliver 1,500 armored vehicles to armed forces in 2014

MOSCOW. Nov 10 (Interfax-AVN) - The size of the state defense order, placed with the research and production corporation Uralvagonzavod (UVZ), has increased more than six times since 2008, said UVZ Deputy General Director Vyacheslav Khalitov.

"Whereas in 2008 the state defense order was worth just over 8 billion rubles, now its has increased to 54.5 billion rubles," Khalitov said in an interview with Russian News Service radio on Saturday.

The UVZ currently delivers hundreds of armored vehicles to the armed forces each year, compared to just dozens previously, he added.

"We plan to deliver almost 1,500 armored vehicles to the military under the state defense order this year," Khalitov said.

The corporation is implementing 45 contracts with the Defense Ministry, including research and development contracts, he said.

The UVZ employs 124,000 personnel. Its production facilities are located in six federal districts. Over 380 firms of first-tier cooperation and more than 8,000 companies of second and third levels are linked with cooperation ties with the UVZ, Khalitov said.
