Moscow does not expect Mogherini to visit soon but envoy Chizhov plans to meet her shortly

BRUSSELS. Nov 18 (Interfax) - A visit to Moscow by EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini really needs to be thoroughly prepared as the sides will discuss the entire range of EU-Russia relations, Russian Permanent Representative to the European Union Vladimir Chizhov said.

He added that he planned to have a meeting with Mogherini very soon.

After a meeting of EU foreign ministers on Monday, Mogherini told reporters a number of ministers had suggested that she should visit Moscow but noted that the preparations would be thorough and a final decision had yet to be made. She also said that she would go to Kyiv when a new Ukrainian government was in place.

"It is easier to visit Kyiv because they will speak on just one matter, the Ukrainian crisis. A visit to Ukraine implies a conversation on the entire broad range of Russia-EU relations. This has to be prepared, so I can understand her position," Chizhov said in comment on the EU foreign policy chief's statement.

He added that Mogherini would need an invitation.

"Moscow is supposed to be the venue for the next meeting of the Permanent Partnership Council at the level of foreign ministers. The matter will be given practical consideration as soon as they are ready to hold this event," the envoy said.

"There is no such invitation so far," he noted.

"However, we are naturally maintaining contacts and have sent her a congratulatory message. I intend to meet and speak with her shortly," Chizhov said.
