Russia and Saudi Arabia to set up working group to combat terrorism - Lavrov

MOSCOW. Nov 21 (Interfax) - Russia and Saudi Arabia have agreed to establish a working group for cooperation in the fight against terrorism, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said at a press conference after talks with his Saudi Arabian counterpart Prince Saud al-Faisal in Moscow on Friday.

"We have agreed to intensify our cooperation in the fight against terrorism. A bilateral working group will be formed for these purposes," he said.

Lavrov said that he and Saudi Arabia's foreign minister had also promised to "persuade our economic agencies to resume the work of the intergovernmental commission for trade, economic, scientific and technological cooperation."

"This commission has not been convened for quite a long period of time. That is why we hope that at the beginning of next year, we will be able to set a date for its next session, which should take place in Saudi Arabia," he said.

During their meeting, the ministers also said that several working groups would be established within this intergovernmental commission in order to coordinate the two countries' contacts in the economy, transport, space exploration and civilian nuclear technology, Lavrov said.
