Ukraine restoring course towards integration with Euroatlantic security system - Poroshenko tells NATO Parliamentary Assembly

BRUSSELS. Nov 24 (Interfax) - Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said in an address to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly that the first thing Ukraine needs is defense of its sovereignty and territorial integrity, stronger defense capability and democratic institutions, and implementation of the necessary political and economic reforms.

"We are in need of urgent and effective support from our partners in the Alliance. Only jointly can we overcome serious threats to European security coming from Russia's illegal actions," says Poroshenko's address, read out by his advisor Rostislav Pavlenko, to the delegates of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly in The Hague on Monday.

"Ukraine has found itself on the crest of the struggle against terrorism in Europe," Poroshenko said.

Ukraine is adjusting its foreign-policy course, the address says. "Our country has been resolutely restoring the political course towards integration with the Euroatlantic security space, which is a course reflecting the will of the Ukrainian citizens," it says.

Pavlenko was appointed presidential advisor on July 3 2014.
