Indian, Russian pilots start joint flights during Aviandra 2014 drill

MOSCOW. Nov 24 (Interfax-AVN) - As part of the Aviandra 2014 air force exercise in India, Russian pilots have begun practical flights jointly with their Indian counterparts aboard Sukhoi Su-30MKI and Mil helicopters Mil-35 and Mi-17.

"Each crew performed two introduction flights," Russian Air Force spokesman Col. Igor Klimov told Interfax-AVN on Monday.

"In all, the joint crews are to perform more than 30 plane and helicopter sorties," he said.

As part of the exercise held at the Halwara Air Base of the Indian Air Force's Western Air Command on November 24 - 28, Indian-Russian crews will perform joint flights and conduct air strikes against ground targets. Army aviation pilots on board Mi-35 and Mi17 helicopters will conduct tactical-air and high-altitude landings and carry out an attack against a mock low-speed aerial target, Klimov said.

The second stage of the Russian-Indian joint air force exercise is taking place in India on November 17 - 28, 2014.
