TBILISI. Dec 18 (Interfax) - Georgia's foreign minister denied an allegation by former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili on Thursday that he had had his "presidential passport" annulled and said there is no such type of document in Georgia.
"There exists no document with the status of a presidential passport," Tamar Beruchashvili told reporters in Strasbourg, France, adding that Saakashvili has possessed, and still does, a diplomatic passport.
Saakashvili, who is under prosecution on several counts in his country, had told reporters after arriving in Strasbourg to attend a European Parliament session that his "presidential passport" had been revoked and that he was surprised by that.
The agenda for the session of the European Union legislature on Thursday that ex-president was going to attend included a ratification vote on an association agreement between EU and Georgia. "He was invited there by his friends and not by the European Parliament," a member of the majority in the Georgian parliament, Eka Beselia, told reporters.
She added that "there will be procedures yet" that might end up in Saakashvili facing "the court that's located not far from the European Parliament building" - the European Court of Human Rights.
