MOSCOW. Dec 25 (Interfax) - Personal computers provided to commanders of military units can get information from all reconnaissance and surveillance facilities used in the battlefield, Alexander Kaplin, deputy general director and general constructor of the company Radoavionika (St. Petersburg), told Interfax-AVN.
"Personal computers are part of the combat equipment of every commander of a unit, regiment, or company. One of its functions is to reflect the tactical situation on the background of a digital map. Computers are also a means of control. They generate commands, which are sent to subordinates in the form of voiced SMS messages," Kaplin said.
Kaplin said the control, reconnaissance and communications complex Strelets, which comprises the commanders' tablet computer, uses high-speed protected radio communication. Thus channel makes it possible to transmit speech information, reports images, and even videos.
The complex Strelets, developed by JSC Radoavionika, is compatible with various surveillance and reconnaissance devices, including devices using laser rangers and angle-data transmitters, and also navigation devices. As a result, Kaplin said the Strelets can indicate targets with an artillery precision. In addition, the Streets is compatible with a battlefield radar locator and other portable surveillance devices, as well as reconnaissance drones, planes and helicopters.
"Any devices that have a digital output and collect information on the battlefield are compatible with the Strelets. This complex united all these sensors into one system and gives commanders a comprehensive picture, which they use to make decisions or provide information to senior commanders using short-wave or satellite radio stations" Kaplin said.
Kaplin said the main indicators of the Russian reconnaissance, control and communciations complex Strelets are not worse than those of its French or German analogue and is much cheaper.
"The Strelets meets the needs of our Armed Forces much better than the Western analogues," Kaplin said.
According to earlier reports, the previous administration of the Russian Defense Ministry considered the possibility of buying a large batch of French military equipment for the Russian army.
