MOSCOW. Jan 14 (Interfax-AVN) - The second stage of efforts to develop the Arctic infrastructure of the Eastern Military District (EMD) on the Cape of Otto Schmidt is due to begin this April.
"In particular, the permanent technical military position will be fully fitted out. Besides, there are plans to restore the airfield," the EMD said in a press release obtained by Interfax-AVN on Tuesday.
"All work will be carried out in line with the requirements for the protection of conservation areas," the spokesperson said.
On October 1, 2014, the EMD deployed troops on Cape Schmidt and the Wrangel Island to patrol Russia's air borders and constructed modular homes to provide living conditions for the Arctic group of the EMD.
