YEREVAN. Jan 15 (Interfax) - Russian army serviceman Valery Permyakov charged with murdering a family of six in Gyumri will be held criminally liable in Armenia, Armenian Prosecutor General Gevork Kostanian has told journalists.
"I assure you that the offender will be held criminally liable in the territory of Armenia and all of us will have a chance to follow the entire process," he said after a conference with the Armenian president Wednesday evening.
He also said that he would visit Gyumri on Thursday and describe all the procedures related to the case to local residents.
Meanwhile, Russian First Deputy Defense Minister Gen. Arkady Bakhin at a meeting with Armenian First Deputy Defense Minister David Tonoian said that a Russian Defense Ministry commission completed its own probe at the 102nd Russian military base.
"At the meeting Bakhin said that the commission completed steps related to the internal probe at the 102nd base and identified all responsible parties," Interfax was told at the press service of the Armenian Defense Ministry on Wednesday.
Bakhin also said that Permyakov remains in Armenian territory.
Six members of the same family, including a two-year-old child, were murdered in Gyumri on January 12. One more family member, a six-month-old baby, survived with stab wounds.
Permyakov was arrested shortly afterwards and is currently at his military base. Charges were brought against him under the Armenian Criminal Code on Wednesday.
Earlier, a spokesperson for the Armenian Prosecutor General's Office said that Permyakov will not be extradited to Armenian investigators because he is a Russian citizen and under Russian jurisdiction.
Thousands of people protested outside the building of the Russian Consulate General in Gyumri and the regional administration on Wednesday.
