KYIV. Jan 16 (Interfax) - Ukraine's National Security and Defense Council (SNBO) Secretary Oleksandr Turchinov has met with the head of the European Union Advisory Mission (EUAM) to Ukraine, Kalman Mizsei, and the United States Ambassador to Ukraine Geoffrey Pyatt.
Turchinov and Mizsei discuss the reform of the Ukrainian civil security sector, an SNBO spokesperson said.
The SNBO secretary said that it is important not only to declare but also implement reforms. "Which is why even in this difficult situation, we started reforms both in the economic sector, and in reforming our security bloc," he said.
In their joint statement Turchinov and Mizsei underscored the importance of the reforms as part of the new goals of the SNBO and the EUAM mandate. "Fight against corruption, public safety and crime prevention are now at the center of the Council's interests. We have agreed upon our future constant cooperation on the question of the rule of law and consultations over reform in the law enforcement system," the statement said.
The SNBO secretary also discussed the situation in Ukraine and bilateral cooperation with the U.S. ambassador.
