"Normandy" summit in Astana depends on ceasefire in eastern Ukraine - Lavrov

MOSCOW. Jan 16 (Interfax) - The summit in the "Normandy format" on Ukraine in Astana depends on the progress in ensuring ceasefire in southeastern Ukraine, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said.

"It's not a secret that the administrations of Russia, Germany, France and Ukraine are discussing the possibility of holding a so-called Normandy summit. An agreement has been reached to hold this summit in Astana. However, in order for it to take place some progress needs to be achieved on some tracks," Lavrov told a press conference on Friday.

"We are talking primarily about an unconditional ceasefire, and appropriate work is now being done, in which the OSCE is involved," Lavrov said.
