Over half of Russians say world is unfair to Russia - poll

MOSCOW. Jan 16 (Interfax) - Russians see their home country as developed (69%), rich (66%) and free (73%), the Public Opinion Foundation said.

In the opinion of 78% of 1,500 respondents polled in 43 regions on December 28, Russian decisions and actions are independent and other countries have no influence on them.

Ten percent argued that Russia depended on other countries, primarily, on the United States (5%) and the European Union (4%).

Two-thirds of the respondents believe that Russia is respected in the world (68%) and its international influence is growing (67%).

Practically half of the respondents (53%) suspect the world of being unfair to Russia, and 28% have the opposite view.

Almost half of the respondents (48%) say that the world has a bad attitude towards Russia, and 36% claim the opposite.

An overwhelming majority of the respondents (86%) are sure that the world fears Russia (the indicator was 68% a year ago).

Seventy-seven percent of the respondents said that foreigners saw Russia as a rich country. Sixty-one percent think Russia has a reputation of a free country, and 59% think that others regard Russia as a developed country.
