MOSCOW. Jan 21 (Interfax) - The leadership of the self-proclaimed Donetsk people's republic (DPR) does not rule out that a demilitarized zone could be set up on the territory of the Donetsk airport, Andriy Purhin, the speaker of the DPR people's council, told Interfax.
"There have been proposals, including from the OSCE, that there should be no military servicemen whatsoever at the Donetsk airport, that is, that there is going to be a demilitarized zone. All this calls for discussions, because there are a lot of nuances, including as concerns the third party that would ensure security in this zone. It needs to be chosen very carefully so as not to further worsen the situation," Purhin said.
The DPR is not in a position to discuss the expansion of the format of the Minsk talks, Purhin said. "We are working in the existing contact group format for the time being and are not in a position to discuss the format's expansion," he said.
