Syrian opposition sits down to negotiate with Damascus officials in Moscow - source

MOSCOW. Jan 28 (Interfax) - Syrian opposition forces sat down to negotiate with government representatives in Moscow, for the first time since the Geneva II conference held in Switzerland about a year ago.

"Indeed, opposition members who are visiting Moscow on these days have sat down to negotiate with a formal delegation from Damascus led by Syrian Permanent Representative to the United Nations Bashar al-Jafari," a member of a negotiating party told Interfax.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov is due to join them in several hours on behalf of the side that provided the platform for inter-Syrian contacts.

Notably, one of the most influential opposition groups in Syria, the National Coalition for Syrian Revolution and Opposition Forces, did not come to Moscow.
