Russian Foreign Ministry calls for full ceasefire in southeastern Ukraine

MOSCOW. Feb 5 (Interfax) - There is a need for full ceasefire, not short-term measures, including a temporary ceasefire, to resolve the conflict in southeastern Ukraine, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

"A more important and urgent task is to promptly halt all military action and resume peaceful dialogue on the ways of settling the conflict," Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Alexander Lukashevich said, commenting on the call made by the OSC chairman for a temporary ceasefire in the military action zone at Interfax's request on Thursday.

""Such one-time measures can, of course, help relieve the tensions in the conflict area, but more drastic measures need to be taken to stop the clashes and the deaths of civilians," Lukashevich said.

Lukashevich reiterated that the same requirements were stated in various international documents, including the recent statement adopted by the foreign ministers of the so-called Normandy format.
