Russia to destroy some 3,000 toxic substances as per 2015 state defense contract

MOSCOW. Feb 5 (Interfax-AVN) - The Federal Department for Safe Storage and Disposal of Chemical Weapons of the Industry and Trade Ministry is fulfilling the 2015 state defense contract on the destruction of toxic substances according to schedule, Colonel-General Valery Kapashin, the head of the federal department, told Interfax-AVN.

"The main task of the federal department for 2015 is to fulfill the indicators of the state defense contract: destroy 2,807 tonnes of toxic substances," Kapashin said.

Kapashin recalled that the Federal Department for Safe Storage and Disposal of Chemical Weapons had fulfilled the 2014 state defense contract ahead of schedule and in full. As of January 1, 2015, Russia had safely destroyed some 34,000 tonnes of toxic substances, or 85% of its remaining arsenal.
