BRUSSELS. Feb 6 (Interfax) - The forthcoming deployment of NATO military facilities in Georgia is a step towards the escalation of tensions and the reduction of regional security levels, in the opinion of Russian Permanent Representative to NATO Alexander Grushko.
"The training center in Georgia is a clearly provocative move. NATO does not need to open any centers there. We think that the Black Sea region can maintain its security by efforts of regional states, i.e. Black Sea littoral countries," Grushko told Russian reporters in Brussels.
"Indeed, the policy of drawing Georgia into NATO is a dangerous one and it has already had very serious consequences for European security; considering the need for the shift to broader cooperation formulas, it will be a major impediment to the formation of the new European architecture. I believe every sober-minded person is perfectly aware of that," the Russian envoy to NATO emphasized.
