Lavrov, Stoltenberg meet, raise intl issues

MOSCOW. Feb 9 (Interfax) - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg discussed "international issues in the context of the current state of relations between Russia and NATO" during a meeting on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference on Saturday, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

"The Russian side pointed out that the alliance's course for increasing the bloc's military potential and building up its military presence and infrastructure on NATO's 'eastern flank,' and a significant increase in the frequency of exercises near Russian borders are giving rise to additional tensions, provoking a confrontation, and undermining the entire system of Euro-Atlantic security," the ministry said in a statement.

"There was also a businesslike discussion on the situation in Ukraine. Lavrov pointed out specially that support by the alliance for the Kyiv government's armed action in the southeast of the country is by no means helpful in the search for ways of settling the deep Ukrainian domestic crisis," it said.
