Motorist, cyclist killed in Donetsk shelling - authorities

MOSCOW. Feb 9 (Interfax) - Two people have been killed during the Monday afternoon shelling of Donetsk, the city administration said on its website.

"Today, as a result of yet another artillery bombardment, a shell hit the bridge in Petrovsky Street, forming a 1.5 by 1.5 meter crater, and killing a motorist and another man who was riding a bicycle nearby," the statement said.

During the shelling one tower block caught fire, the administration added. Rescuers have travelled to the scene, there have yet been no reports about casualties.

Earlier militias said that the Petrovsky district of Donetsk had come under artillery fire.

It was reported earlier that five people had been killed and another 53 injured over the weekend. Eduard Basurin of the Defense Ministry of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic said, that 36 breaches by the Ukrainian military had been recorded overnight.
