MOSCOW. Feb 10 (Interfax) - The United States wants to entangle Russia in an interstate military conflict and make use of the situation in Ukraine to divide Russia in the long run, said Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev.
"The situation in Ukraine has been used as a pretext for our country's containment. Ukraine as such is of no interests for the United States. The goal being pursued by the U.S. is to weaken our positions," Patrushev said in an interview to be published by the Rossiiskaya Gazeta daily on Wednesday.
"The U.S. has been trying to entangle Russia in an interstate military conflict and to make use of the developments in Ukraine for regime change and, ultimately, for splitting our country," he said.
