West condones neo-Nazism in Baltic States, Ukraine - Patrushev

MOSCOW. Feb 10 (Interfax) - The West is condoning the revival of Nazism in the Baltic States and Ukraine, as it once did fascism in Germany, says Nikolai Patrushev, the Secretary of the Russian Security Council.

"The revival of Nazism in the Baltic States and Ukraine is once again taking place under the nose of Europe and even incitement on the part of the U.S.," he said.

"The appeasement policy pursued by Western nations against Nazi Germany in the 1930s led to final degradation of the Versaille System and the radical change in the balance of forces in Europe. Fascism in Germany had for years been openly condoned," Patrushev said."The lifting of the restrictions imposed on the First World War enabled Hitler to legalize and arm his army with modern weapons. Probably, his ideas of asserting the supremacy of the German nation at the expense of eastern territories were met with understanding among Western politicians who effectively encouraged fascist aggression. As a result, fascists were getting ever more brazen, 'conquering space' and enslaving other nations. It was only when the united nations realized the global nature of the threat, at the price of huge effort and sacrifice, that it had become possible to stop fascism," Patrushev said in an interview to be published in the Rossiyskaya Gazeta newspaper on Wednesday.

"Now the picture is similar," Patrushev said in reference to Nazism in the Baltic States and Ukraine.
