Shoigu to discuss defense cooperation issues in Venezuela, Nicaragua, Cuba

MOSCOW. Feb 11 (Interfax-AVN) - Russian Defense Minister Gen. of the Army Sergei Shoigu will discuss military-technological cooperation issues during his official visits to Venezuela, Nicaragua and Cuba, Defense Ministry spokesman Maj. Gen. Igor Konashenkov told reporters on Tuesday.

"The sides will look into important issues on bilateral defense and military-technological cooperation and exchange opinions on key problems of global and regional security," he said.

Nicaragua and Cuba will form the other legs of the trip of Shoigu to Latin America, which is due to end on February 14, he said.

"This is the first visit of Gen. of the Army Sergei Shoigu to these countries in the capacity of the Russian Defense Minister," Konashenkov added.
