BRUSSELS. Feb 16 (Interfax) - The enlargement of the EU sanction list would not prompt the conflicting parties in Ukraine to honor the February 12 Minsk agreements, Russian permanent representative in the EU Vladimir Chizhov said.
"This will not only send a message to Russian public opinion and prompt Russia to revert to our reciprocal lists but it also wouldn't stimulate the conflicting parties - I mean both parties - to actively observe the provisions of the Minsk documents," Chizhov told journalists on Friday in commenting on outcomes of a February 12 European Union summit.
"Fragmentary data reaching us indicates that most of those figuring on this list are Ukrainian citizens, but not those living in Kyiv and working on the mobilization and the military campaign but those who defend their rights in the east of Ukraine, in Donbas," he said.
"The European Council didn't lift a finger to suspend the procedure of enlarging the blacklist launched last Monday. It is automatic in nature and would make this list longer on February 16," Chizhov said.
Reports circulated earlier by some Western media outlets suggested that five citizens of Russia, 14 citizens of Ukraine, and nine organizations, most of which operate in Donbas, would be added to the EU sanction list.
