Victory Day parades planned in Sevastopol, Kerch (Part 2)

MOSCOW. March 17 (Interfax) - Military parades commemorating the 70th anniversary of victory in WWII will be held in Kerch and Sevastopol amongst other cities, head of the Russian Presidential Administration Sergei Ivanov said.

"Indeed, the festive events due in Crimea bear special significance. We still remember the enthusiastic celebrations people of Crimea and Sevastopol had on May 9, 2014, right after their return to the homeland. This year we will have our first joint Victory Day celebrations in over two decades," Ivanov said at a meeting of the Victory organizational committee chaired by Russian President Vladimir Putin.

"Military parades will be arranged in the hero cities of Kerch and Sevastopol. Sevastopol is planned to host a naval parade," he said.

The organizing committee has been receiving numerous requests from regions for hosting military parades and marches, Ivanov said. "Thanks to our Defense Ministry, servicemen will be involved in these celebrations to a maximal degree. Festivities engaging troops and fleet forces will be held in 70 cities of Russia," Ivanov said.

The parades and marches will demonstrate various types of armaments and military hardware, he said. "Five cities will host naval parades, and aircraft will embark on show flights in five cities of Russia, as well as in Minsk and Bishkek," Ivanov said.

The main parade will be held on Moscow's Red Square. "I'd rather not disclose every detail of the [parade] script but I can tell you that we will put an emphasis on the historical part of the parade this year, as we have said at the organizing committee," he said.
