Russia should advertize its achievements to counter artificial negative image - Senator Kosachyov

MOSCOW. March 24 (Interfax) - Russia needs to step up efforts to ensure that the rest of the world has an objective picture of the situation in the country, Konstantin Kosachyov, who chairs the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Federation Council, the upper chamber of Russia's parliament, has said.

"Today Russia's image has been artificially misrepresented in the world. This situation can be countered with the help of 'propaganda', which would help the world form an objective vision of our country and its events," Kosachyov told the Pozner program on the Channel One television station on Monday.

Our country's image is being put in the most negative light artificially and deliberately, he said.

"Today any Western citizen would instantly describe Russia as the most terrible and frightening country, where well-known opposition members are killed and oligarchs are sent to prison almost every day. No one is speaking about real achievements and successes. This also concerns the Western media," the Russian senator said.

However, Russia is also partially responsible for such a vision of it appearing in the world, but the country and its citizens do not deserve to be treated like that in any case, Kosachyov said.

"We do not deserve this negative image. We do not deserve to be put at a shame pole and see others go out of the way to impose their advice on us," he added.
