Russia's Security Council scientists to study Ukrainian conflict, NATO reinforcement

MOSCOW. March 24 (Interfax) - The Ukrainian conflict and NATO's reinforcement in central and eastern Europe will be at the center of attention of a scientific board set up by the Russian Security Council (SC), SC Secretary Nikolai Patrushev said.

"At the center of attention of the scientific community will be problems caused by the aggravation of the international situation, the alarming things happening in the post-Soviet bloc near Russian borders, primarily the fratricidal wear in Ukraine and the build-up of NATO's military presence in central and eastern Europe," he told the presidium of the SC scientific board on Monday.

Information security, sanctions, international terrorism, transborder crime and other issues will be on the agenda of the scientific board's sections, he said.

"We are expecting the scientific board to give substantiated proposals on how to broaden international cooperation on security, including in relation to foreign and domestic issues," Patrushev said.

The SC scientific board, which was endorsed by the Russian president on February 14, 2015, will meet on April 8, an SC spokesperson told Interfax. The board consists of 150 members, including 33 academicians, 65 doctors of sciences and 33 candidates of candidates of scientists.
