Possible presence of Russians onboard A-320 crashed in France being verified

MOSCOW. March 24 (Interfax) - Russian diplomats in Germany are verifying the possible presence of Russians onboard an Airbus A-320 aircraft which crashed in southeastern France en route from Barcelona to Dusseldorf on Tuesday.

"The information is being verified," a source in the Russian Embassy in Berlin told Interfax.

The Russian Consulate in Barcelona from where the plane had departed said they had no information about possible Russian passengers.

"We have no data as of yet. Information is being checked," a representative of the diplomatic mission told Interfax.

The plane crashed in the mountains, at approximately 2,700 meters above sea level. There are practically no roads there.

French Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve is planned to visit the crash site on Tuesday.

The plane disappeared from radar screens when it was flying in the Barcelonnette area.

The French media reported there were 142 passengers and six crewmembers on the plane. It is unknown what has happened to them.
