Moscow expects more govt officials at April intra-Syrian talks - source

MOSCOW. March 25 (Interfax) - Russia hopes Damascus will increase its representation at the intra-Syrian consultations due in Moscow on April 6 - 9, a Russian diplomatic source told Interfax on Tuesday.

"We hope that Damascus representation at the Syrian opposition consultations in Moscow on April 6-9 will be higher, but so far it is difficult to say who will be in the official delegation from Damascus," the source said.

At the same time, no major compositional change is expected, the source said. "It is difficult to say how many people will be present at the intra-Syrian consultations. We are expecting their number to be the same. As for the personalities, there might be new faces," he said.

The United Nations-Arab League envoy to Syria is also expected to attend, the source also said. .

"The invitation has been sent to the UN-Arab League Special Representative for Syria, Staffan de Mistura, but whether he will arrive or send his deputy is not known yet," the source said.

"Everyone wants him to attend since it will symbolize our joint efforts in the struggle to resolve the Syrian conflict," he said.

It was reported that the next round of intra-Syrian consultations in Moscow will be held on April 6-9.
