Peskov: Greek premier's visit to Moscow in April, his probable attendance of Victory Day celebrations are two different events

MOSCOW. April 3 (Interfax) - The working visit by Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras to Moscow on April 8 and the celebrations of the 70th anniversary of the Victory to which he has been invited are two different events, Russian presidential press officer Dmitry Peskov said.

"There was an invitation and guests' wishes are undoubtedly taken into account when approving the schedules. That time was convenient to our Greek partners: the visit and the contact with President Putin will take place on April 8," Peskov told reporters on Thursday.

Responding to a question as to why the Greek prime minister's visit will take place a month earlier, despite the invitation for May 9, Peskov reiterated that Tsipras' working visit and his participation in the celebration of the 70th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War are two different events, which are not connected.

"Why a month earlier? He will pay a working visit to Moscow on April 8. May 9 will be a ceremonial memorial event devoted to the Victory day. It's two different events," Peskov said.
