SEVEROMORSK. April 7 (Interfax-AVN) - The Northern Fleet Severomorsk destroyer, currently on a long-term mission to the Mediterranean has visited the Spanish exclave of Ceuta on the northern coast of Africa, fleet spokesman Capt. 1st Rank Vadim Serga told Interfax-AVN.
"This is a business visit. The crew will replenish reserves and have a brief rest on the shore, including a Ceuta sightseeing tour," Serga said.
Before visiting Ceuta, the sailors practiced navigation in narrow channels and water and fire damage control.
The Severomorsk departed from the Northern Fleet main base, Severomorsk, on November 20, 2014. It has covered a distance of over 16,000 miles, some of them in stormy weather, and visited the Omani port of Salalah.
The purpose of the long-distance voyage of the Severomorsk destroyer is to indicate the Russian naval presence in strategic areas of the World Ocean and security of shipping and other types of economic activity of the Russian Federation.
