Disapproval of Russia-Greece cooperation 'opportunistic, political' - Putin

MOSCOW. April 9 (Interfax) - Russian President Vladimir Putin is stunned by negative remarks made about the relationship between Moscow and Athens.

"For me, it is even odd to hear that some is expressing doubts on that score. This is dictated entirely by the current opportunistic political reasons that have nothing to do with the interests of either the Greek, or Russian, or European nations," Putin said after talks with Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras in Moscow on Wednesday.

If the Greek economy strengthens through its relations with Russia, this will be an opportunity for Athens to resolve its debt problems in due time, the Russian president said.

"Everyone is interested in normalization of the situation in the Greek economy," he said.
