Anti-Russian sanctions could lead to new Cold War - Tsipras

MOSCOW. April 9 (Interfax) - The sanctions policy against Russia is counterproductive and could lead to a Cold War between Moscow and the West, Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras said.

"The countermeasures dealt a deep wound to the Greek economy. But we are perfectly aware that the countermeasures came as a response to the sanctions with whose logic we disagree, and we have publicly expressed this disagreement," Tsipras told a press conference held jointly with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow on Wednesday.

"(This) is an unproductive resolution of what effectively is an economic war," he said. "It will lead to Cold War-style relations between the West and Russia," he said, adding that Greece is seeking to improve dialogue with Russia at every level within the EU.

This is why Athens supports the implementation of the Minsk agreements, Tsipras said.
