Tsipras: dialog, diplomacy to help Russia, Greece overcome food product trade difficulties

MOSCOW. April 9 (Interfax) - Dialog, diplomacy and mutual understanding will help Russia and Greece to overcome current difficulties in agricultural production trade, Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras said.

Tsipras and President Vladimir Putin discussed ways to overcome those difficulties at the meeting on Wednesday, Tsipras said at a joint press conference following the meeting.

Both countries want to see substantial development of trade relations in the agricultural sector.

Tsipras said it was simply of matter of having the political will to find a resolution.

Russia's embargo on imports of a number of food products from many Western countries, including Greece, caused major damage to the Greek economy. Tsipras said he fully understood that Russia was only acting in response to Western sanctions, whose logic Greece was not in agreement with.

Russia imposed its embargo on some food product imports in August 2014. Greece exported food products to Russia worth 611 million euro in 2013.
