Russia, Belarus begin joint command-and-staff training

MOSCOW. April 9 (Interfax) - Officers of the Russian Western Military District headquarters and the Belarusian Defense Ministry are holding a joint command-and-staff drill in St. Petersburg, the Russian Defense Ministry said.

"In the course of the command-and-staff drill, Russian and Belarusian officers will practice the joint planning of troop deployment consistent with the new forms and methods developed by the two defense ministries," says a report posted on the ministry website.

This is a scheduled event aimed to improve interaction between formations of the Russian and Belarusian Armed Forces, the Russian Defense Ministry said.

The practice will be over on April 10.
