MOSCOW. May 5 (Interfax) - The military servicemen of the Russian Western Military District stationed in Transdniestria have increased the intensity of their combat training, as is seen from the outcomes of the winter training period summed up by the operational group of Russian troops in the Transdniestrian region.
"The servicemen spent more than 250,000 rounds of ammunition over the winter training period. Compared to the same period last year, the number of ammunition rounds spent has grown by 20%," Western Military District spokesman Col. Oleg Kochetkov told Interfax.
The group of Russian troops in Transdniestria received about 450 hours of tactical training and over 250 hours of firing exercises, including with the use of BTR-70 armored personnel carriers and firearms, Kochetkov said.
The servicemen also took over 100 lessons to practice the driving of military vehicles, covering about 60,000 kilometers on various types of terrain. "At least 50% of all exercises took place at nighttime," he said.
"About 10 company-level tactical and special tactical exercises have been conducted with the group of Russian troops in Transdniestria," Kochetkov said.
