BELGRADE. May 8 (Interfax) - In an exclusive interview with Interfax, Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic confirmed that Belgrade does not agree with the anti-Russia sanctions imposed by the European Union, but said Serbia will have a duty to follow the general policies of the EU after joining the EU.
"We have stated to all European officials our position that we now disagree with the imposition of the sanctions against Russia, but we will have a duty to follow a common foreign policy when we become an EU member," he said.
The Serbian president said the development of Russian-Serbian cooperation is currently not an obstacle to integration in the EU and "the Kosovo and Metohija issue is a more significant problem."
"The solution of this problem is the main condition of our accession to the EU, whereas the relations with Russia, namely, the issue of the sanctions against it, may only become a problem when we join the EU," Nikolic said.
