Ukraine subgroup to study proposals on removal of under 100 mm weapons - Lavrov

SOCHI. May 13 (Interfax) - The Contact Group's working subgroup on security will meet this week to consider the documents regarding the removal of under 100 millimeter weapons, which have been annexed to the Minsk agreements, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said.

These documents were already laid before the Contact Group at its meeting on May 6, he said.

"The second proposal, drafted on Russia's initiative, is for the Minsk agreements to be extended with a consent to remove not only over 100 millimeter heavy weapons, but also tanks and under 100 millimeter weapons, including mortar launches. Representatives from Luhansk and Donetsk and Russian representatives in the Contact Group, and, as far as I understand, OSCE representatives were ready to sign these documents," the minister said after meeting with U.S. State Secretary John Kerry.

"But for some reason (the signing) did not happen, it was agreed to put these documents for consideration by the working subgroup on security that is due to meet this week," he said.

If signed, these documents will "significantly reduce the risk of ceasefire violation," he said.
