State Duma speaker to visit South Korea and Japan

MOSCOW. May 15 (Interfax) - Russian State Duma Speaker Sergei Naryshkin will pay an official visit to South Korea and Japan on May 19-21.

"I want to hold sincere and content-rich discussions addressing a whole range of topics - both bilateral and global. I am convinced that all planned events and meetings will be constructive," Naryshkin was quoted as saying by the chamber's website.

There are plenty of topics that are interesting to parliamentarians of both Russia, South Korea and China, he said.

"Parliamentary cooperation remains one of the most important factors of contacts between our states," Naryshkin said.

During his trip to South Korea on May 19, Naryshkin is expected to hold talks with National Assembly Speaker Jeong Ui-hwa, meet with country's business people and attend a roundtable addressing historical and cultural aspects of ties between Russia and South Korea.

When visiting Japan on May 20-21, the State Duma speaker will meet with President of the House of Councilors Masaaki Yamazaki and Speaker of the House of Representatives Tadamori Oshima.

Naryshkin is also expected to attend the opening ceremony for the 10th Festival of Russian Culture in Japan, where a long-term program for such festivals may be signed.

In addition to that, Naryshkin plans to address the 3rd Russian-Japanese forum on business, investment and sport, organized by the Rossiyskaya Gazeta newspaper and Mainichi Shimbun, one of major newspapers in Japan.
