MOSCOW. May 20 (Interfax) - The Kremlin disagrees with the statement made by Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko that his country is having to fight Russia, not separatists.
"The Kremlin disagrees. One should first of all be aware of the fact that, unfortunately, Kyiv is fighting its own citizens," Russian presidential press officer Dmitry Peskov told reporters on Wednesday.
"It's them [citizens of Ukraine] who come under fire, it's them who die. We should probably speak about that, first of all," he said.
Poroshenko made the statement in question in an interview with the BBC. "Can I be absolutely clear with you this is not a fight with Russian-backed separatists, this is a real war with Russia," the Ukrainian president said.
